Electronic access through IRA is a mess. They offer institutions rolling access to the current volume. The rolling date, however, is set to the date of the starting issue for the volume of one title, then follows through as the rolling start date for all titles, even if their volumes start at different points in the year. Confusing? Very. I called IRA today to ask about this situation. They are thinking about it. The board of directors will make the decision and set a time table. Names of the directors are at http://www.reading.org/association/about/board.html in case anyone wants to send an email. This issue is particularly troublesome to me as this is a well-used, popular electronic title in our collection.
Response to the new College Edition Health & Life Sciences package from Elsevier has been great. The proof is in the numbers and 3218 full text articles have been downloaded since December 2006. Wow! Because this package has been so popular, we are looking to license the other two packages for January 2008.
Lots of changes happening with periodicals here at Murphy Library. This blog is more or less an experiment to see if our users are interested in riding the wave of change with us.
